Have you ever noticed how closely your mind and body are connected? On those days when you feel sluggish or worn out physically, it seems like your mental and emotional energy dips, too.
It’s no coincidence—our physical health and mental health are deeply intertwined. When you take care of your body, you’re also nurturing your mind. Here’s why…
1. Movement Boosts Your Mood
You’ve probably heard it before: exercise is good for you. But did you know that even gentle movement can have a powerful impact on your mental health?
When you move your body—whether it’s going for a walk, stretching, or doing something more active—your brain releases endorphins, which are often called “feel-good” chemicals. These endorphins help lift your mood, reduce anxiety, and even ease feelings of depression.
If you’re feeling stuck or weighed down by stress, a little bit of movement can make a big difference. It’s not about intense workouts; it’s about finding ways to move that feel good to you. Maybe it’s a peaceful walk through your neighborhood, some light pilates, or even dancing around your living room to your favorite worship music.
Movement is a gift, and it can remind you that you are strong and capable, both physically and mentally.
2. Physical Health Reduces Stress and Anxiety
When your body is under stress, your mind often follows. But when you take steps to care for your physical health, your body’s stress levels decrease, and your mind feels more at ease. Regular movement can lower the stress hormone cortisol, which means you’ll feel calmer and more in control.
Even small changes can make a big difference in how you manage anxiety. Drinking more water, taking breaks to stretch, or eating a nourishing meal can all help ease that tightness in your chest and bring your mind back to a place of peace.
3. Caring for Your Body is Being a Good Steward
As Christian women, we’re called to steward our resources wisely to serve God’s Kingdom. Have you ever thought about the fact that your physical body is one of those resources?
When you take care of your physical body, you’re being a good steward of one of the resources God has given you to serve His Kingdom. It’s not about striving for perfection. It’s about taking care of yourself so you can continue serving God with energy and strength for years to come.
Taking time to nurture your body with movement isn’t selfish—it’s essential. It helps you feel strong and grounded, and it allows you to show up fully for the people and responsibilities in your life. Most importantly, it connects you with the life God intended for you—one of balance, peace, and joy.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or out of balance lately, ask yourself whether you’ve been moving your body. Remember, it’s not about doing everything perfectly. It’s about listening to your body, being kind to yourself, and taking small, nurturing steps that support both your physical and mental wellbeing.
With all my love and encouragement,
Kiarra
